Well, I finally did it. I discovered a way to combine my skills in graphic design and photography with my love for cooking. I have been a graphic designer since graduating from the Art Institute of Houston in 1983. I love being creative, and cooking is a big part of that.


I’m so excited to write down my recipes, taking the photos as I cook them. Then using my graphic skills to design my cookbook, “A Mouth Full Of Yum” (ISBN# 978-0-578-20415-4).  I have selected a wide range of some of my favorite recipes for you to enjoy. You will see that each recipe has a photo, taken by me, as I prepared the recipe myself. I have written, collected, and modified many recipes over the years. I feel most recipes are meant to be a guide that you can follow and/or modify to suit your own tastes. Except for baking of course. Baking is more technical than cooking, and it’s best to stick to the recipes until you get the hang of modifying them.


I want to send out a big “thank you” for the assistance, love and support from my husband John Helms. He helped me make sure all the flavors in the recipes are great as well as editing the cookbook with help from DJ Powell and Tyler Brent. Also, I need to give a shout out to my awesome barber, Carlos Carrillo, for threatening not to cut my hair anymore if I didn’t write my recipes down! LOL ...not really he just encouraged me to get busy. Thanks guys!
